After ejection, Abadiano confident teammates could win title

Even after being ejected, NU Bullpups team captain Gerry Abadiano knew his fellow troops were good enough to finish the job and be crowned as the UAAP Season 81 juniors' basketball champions.

Abadiano was thrown out after committing his second unsportsmanlike foul with 3.0 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

He had taken an inadvertent swipe at the shoulder area of Ateneo center Kai Sotto, which referees did not deem as a play on the ball.

Abadiano ended his game with 8 points and 8 rebounds, crucial statistics in a grind-out game such as Game 2 of the Finals.

The game was still very much in question as NU only led 46-45 after the third period, but even though their fate was still in limbo, Abadiano stayed confident as he paced the Bullpups' dugout.

As he returned to the court following the final buzzer, a hard-fought 64-53 victory against defending champs Ateneo, he and his teammates did not hold back on their emotions.

Everything that they had sacrificed since the summer of 2018 had finally paid off.
