NU setter Joyme Cagande’s MRI result from Delos Santos Medical Center showed a high grade tear on her ACL with bone contusion on her lateral femoral condyle, knee joint effusion and suprapatellar bursitis.
National University converted libero Joni Chavez to setter as a replacement for rookie Joyme Cagande, who could miss the remainder of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament after sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear.
The Lady Bulldog suffered a left knee injury in the closing moments of the third set last week and was rushed to the hospital as NU bowed down to Far Eastern University in four sets.
“Inaantay pa namin mag-subside ‘yung swelling bago malaman kung ooperahan,” said NU coach Norman Miguel on Saturday before the Lady Bulldogs’ game against University of the East.

The playmaker’s knee buckled as she was trying to retrieve the ball and collided with teammate Roselyn Doria. Cagande, who tallied 15 excellent sets, was assisted back to NU’s bench and was carried by Risa Sato back into the Lady Bulldogs’ locker.
Chavez will take over Cagande’s spot with the Lady Bulldogs playing with only 10 available players. Chavez tallied 13 digs the last time out.
