Feel ko this year kahit wala kaming go-to-guy, everyone’s becoming a go-to-guy na so madali rin ma-distribute (ang bola) -- Michelle Cobb
Three-time defending champion De La Salle University saw the departure of its two main guns in Kim Kianna Dy and former Most Valuable Player Majoy Baron last season.
Instead of treating it as a loss, the Lady Spikers saw it as an opportunity to keep the opposition guessing on which DLSU hitter to mark.
Third year setter Michelle Cobb utilized her attackers well, making everyone a scoring threat in DLSU’s 25-16, 25-21, 25-20, drubbing of Adamson University Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“Feel ko this year kahit wala kaming go-to-guy, everyone’s becoming a go-to-guy na so madali rin ma-distribute (ang bola),” said Cobb, who tallied 25 excellent sets. “May tiwala ako sa kanilang lahat na sure akong mapapatay nila ang ball.”
The Lady Spikers saw seven players scoring with rookie Jolina Dela Cruz posting 10 points. Des Cheng and Aduke Ogunsanya had nine markers each while May Luna and Norielle Ipac combined for 14 markers that highlighted DLSU’s balanced scoring.
“Magandang sign ‘yun sa team kasi ibig sabihin hindi lang ‘yung team captain or mga seniors ang kailangang mag-lead ng team so kahit ‘yung rookie kailangan mag-lead muna siya sa sarili niya para mai-lead ang team. Magandang sign,” said DLSU head coach Ramil De Jesus.
The Lady Spikers improved to 2-0 win-loss record tied with University of the Philippines on top of the standing and are on a 13-game winning run since last season.
DLSU’s last defeat came at the hands of the Lady Falcons in their sixth game in Season 80.
