Adamson University moved up to a share of the lead at the expense of winless De La Salle University.
Adamson University relied on its vaunted floor defense to cancel out De La Salle University’s height advantage in the Falcons’ 25-21, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, win Saturday for a share of the lead in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Graduating veteran Paolo Pablico led the Falcons to its second straight win in as many games to move at the top spot alongside Far Eastern University.
“Na-stick pa rin kami sa plan namin na gaya noong sa UST sa service, sa receive at sa blockings, talagang nag-focus kami sa depensa namin kasi yun talaga ang ikakapanalo namin,” said Pablico, who finished with 18 points off 16 kills, an ace and a kill block as Adamson continued its romp following an upset win over University of Sto. Tomas in the opener.
“Kami ang pinakamaliit kumpara sa ibang teams kaya nag-focus kami sa baba, sa receive saka sa service para di kami mahirapan sa blockings,” added Pablico.
George Labang finished with 17 markers while Mark Alvarez got 16 for the Falcons, who received 28 points off the Green Spikers’ miscues. Carlo Jimenez tallied 39 excellent sets while libero Jesus Valdez got 28 excellent receptions and 11 digs for Adamson.
DLSU dropped to 0-2 slate.
Cris Dumago posted 16 spikes for an 18-point outing while Kiefer Reyes, Billie Anima and John Delos Reyes chipped in with nine markers each in a lost cause.
