Mohammad Almohjili (19) scores the first goal of his UAAP career as he powers DLSU to a 1-0 win over Adamson in UAAP Men's Football Action
An early-second half goal proved to be the difference for De La Salle University as the Green Archers shot down the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City for their first win in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament.
Early on, the Soaring Falcons found themselves at a disadvantage in terms of men on the pitch after centerback Ricardo Ortinez Jr. was sent off following a straight red card.
Still, Adamson managed to hold tough on defense as they denied DLSU's chances to keep the scorelines at 0-0 heading into the halftime break.
Five minutes into the second half however, the Green Archers finally broke the deadlock courtesy of a shot from rookie striker Mohammad Almohjili.
Hoping to mount another comeback effort, Adamson tried to push the action but could not make anything happen as the Green Archers tightened would not allow a chance from the Soaring Falcons.
Adamson's decision to send goalkeeper Carl Viray out to join the offensive attack nearly backfired, as DLSU came up with an interception and nearly had themselves an open lane to the goal but could not capitalize as Viray made it back in time to come up with a save.
Still, the solitary goal was enough for DLSU to earn their first win of the young UAAP Men's Football season.
"We can't be satisfied with this game parin eh, we have to work out a lot of things with the team," admitted DLSU coach Alvin Ocampo. "One is yung jelling, two is yung experience nung mga bata. We started with eight rookies to day, so more games parin, kailangan parin ng games, matches dahil all of the teams right now in the UAAP are not pushovers, wala na this year, good quality of teams."
With the win, DLSU improves to one win and one loss for four points in the season.
After their promising start, Adamson suffers their first defeat of the season and drops to two draws and a loss for two points.
