UAAP 81 Football: Last-minute goal saves UST vs NU
A last-minute goal from Dexter Benecio saved UST from defeat as they held NU to a 2-2 draw in UAAP Men's Football Action

A goal in the final minute of stoppage time helped the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers hold the National University Bulldogs to a 2-2 draw in UAAP Season 81 Men's Football action, Sunday afternoon at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

Looking for their first three points of the season, NU came out hot early in the match, as striker Marcel Ouano completed a brace in the 15th and 19th minutes of the match to give the Bulldogs an early 2-0 cushion.

Minutes later, it seemed as if UST had pulled one back courtesy of Conrado Dimacali, but the conversion was waved off as Dimacali was ruled offside.

In the 27th minute, Dimacali made good on his second attempt as he put the Growling Tigers back to within a goal.

UST played catch up for the entire second half of the match but could not seem to break the deadlock and NU appeared to be headed to their first win of the season.

The Growling Tigers caught a break however, after six additional minutes of stoppage time were added to the match.

With one final push to pull even, UST attacked the NU goal and after a scramble near the NU in literally the last minute of extra time, substitute Dexter Benecio found a way to tip the ball in to tie things up at two goals apiece just before the final whistle went off.

"The players deserved to get a draw, kasi since first half pa lang, andami nilang attempts," said UST head coach Marjo Allado, who breathed a sigh of relief as his wards avoided what was almost their first loss of the season.

"Yung pinaka-importante yung players, tuloy-tuloy lang yung laban nila eh, hindi sila nag-give up," Allado added.

With the draw, UST moves to one win and two draws for five points in the season.

NU meanwhile moves to two draws and two points.
