In the past games, I really struggled in my emotion and body motion. The team, all the players and the coaches, helped me to move on and forget the past -- Milena Alessandrini
Milena Alessandrini rediscovered her confidence Sunday, playing her best game yet in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
The sophomore hitter got her groove going early to tow University of Sto. Tomas to a morale-boosting 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20, win over University of the Philippines at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Alessandrini finished with 22 points as the Tigresses tied their victims at 2-1 win-loss record.
“I’m happy with this result,” said Alessandrini, who had 19 attacks and three kill blocks.
“In the past games, I really struggled in my emotion and body motion. The team, all the players and the coaches, helped me to move on and forget the past,” said Alessandrini.
The 6-foot-2 Fil-Italian had a quiet 10-point outing in the Tigresses’ four-set loss to Ateneo de Manila University last Wednesday.
“I threw out my emotions, started training and think positive because in the past I always think negatively. I told myself, ‘Let’s go Lena, you can do it.’ (I gave it) a different approach,” said Alessandrini, who averaged 12.5 points in UST’s first two outings.
The Tigress filled the stats sheet with 15 digs and 10 excellent receptions for a complete game.
But Alessandrini and UST know that there’s still a long way to go in their journey to capture the elusive Final Four berth.
“The team is now happy but we have to restart because we have another game. We have to maintain this attitude and this result,” she said.
UST will face Far Eastern University on Saturday.
