UAAP Season 81: Tigers win second straight

University of Sto. Tomas displayed balanced scoring to add more woes to winless University of the Philippines.
University of Sto. Tomas displayed its full arsenal as five players finished in double figures to demolish University of the Philippines, 26-24, 25-27, 25-23, 25-13, Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Manuel Medina led four other players in double digits with 19 points in the Tigers’ second straight victory in three outings.The fourth year hitter played an all-around game with 13 kills, three aces and three blocks with 11 digs for UST.
Jayvee Sumagaysay scored 16 points, Joshua Umandal got 16 markers with 14 excellent receptions and nine digs while Jaron Requinton and Hermel Corda posted 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Tigers, who rained down 54 attack points behind Timothy Tajanlangit’s 28 excellent sets.
The Espana-based squad frustrated the Fighting Maroons with solid net defense that translated to 15 kill blocks. The Tigers took advantage of the service game to score seven aces.
UP dropped its third straight game to remain winless.
John Mark Millete led the Maroons with 17 points while Jerry San Pedro had 13 markers.
