UAAP Season 81: Bagunas fires 27 in NU's second straight win

Bryan Bagunas dazzled with 27 points in National University's four-set win over De La Salle University.
Graduating hitter Bryan Bagunas fired 27 points to tow repeat-seeking National University to its second straight win after tripping De La Salle University, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18, Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 men's volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The veteran open spiker hammered 23 attacks with three aces and a kill block as last year's Finals MVP displayed his full arsenal that pushed the Bulldogs to a tie at 2-1 win-loss record with idle University of Sto. Tomas.
After a shaky debut in NU's straight sets loss to Far Eastern University, rookie playmaker Joshua Retamar has been slowly making an impact with the Bulldogs. The setter tallied 31 excellent sets and distributed the ball well as NU blasted 63 attack points - 20 kills more than the Green Spikers' output.
Madzlan Gampong added 15 points while skipper Francis Saura got 11 markers for the Bulldogs, who started out flat before regaining their bearing to flatten the winless DLSU in one hour and 50 minutes.
The Green Spikers continued with its struggle to capture the elusive first win after three tries to join University of the Philippines at the cellar.
Geraint Bacon pounded 13 kills for 16 points in a lost cause. Team captain Cris Dumago had 12 points while Kiefer Reyes and John David Inocentes posted 11 markers, respectively, for DLSU.
