Parang sa basketball, free throw yan, araw-araw mong ginagawa mo yan. Kung ma-shoot mo, eh di okay. Eh ang nangyari, kapos, hindi man lang tumama ng ring -- DLSU coach Ramil De Jesus on the Lady Spikers' service game woes
Head coach Ramil De Jesus rued the number of service errors committed by three-time defending champion De La Salle University Wednesday in the Lady Spikers’ scary win over National University.
DLSU threw away 25 points off miscues and 14 of it came from the service line in its 25-10, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22, victory over the feisty Lady Bulldogs Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“Actually ano eh, hindi ko na ano kasi. Sa player ko na ‘yun eh. Sabi ko sa kanila, pag ganoong pagkakamali, lalo na sa service, kayo na ‘yun,” he said.
May Luna, Aduke Ogunsanya, Michelle Cobb and Des Cheng had three service errors each while rookie Jolina Dela Cruz had two.
“Hindi na pwedeng isisi pa sa kalaban ‘yun. Kayo ‘yun, kayo ‘yung lumabas sa service area, kayo magse-serve, lahat ‘yun kayo gagawa. Kung mali yun, tayo ang may mali, hindi ‘yung kalaban. So doon ako medyo na-frustrate. Ikaw na ‘yan eh,” said De Jesus.
The mentor compared their service game to an awful basketball free throw shooting.
“Parang sa basketball, free throw yan, araw-araw mong ginagawa mo yan. Kung ma-shoot mo, eh di okay. Eh ang nangyari, kapos, hindi man lang tumama ng ring,” said De Jesus drawing laughter inside the pressroom during the post-game interview.
The Lady Spikers weathered their most challenging game in the season yet to remain unbeaten after three games.
Unfortunately, for DLSU, De Jesus, felt that his wards needed an extra training after their performance.
“Binibiro ko lang kayo… Pero meron, lalo na kay Duke (Ogunsanya),” said De Jesus.
