UAAP 81 Football: Defending champs UP to make season debut
King Miyagi and the UP Fighting Maroons make their UAAP Season 81 Men's Football debut against National University

MATCHES on THURSDAY (FEU Diliman)

9:00 AM - FEU vs. UST (Men's)

1:00 PM - DLSU vs. UE (Men's)

3:00 PM - UP vs. NU (Men's)

Defending champions University of the Philippines are set to make their season debut when they take on National University in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football tournament, Thursday afternoon at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

Reigning supreme over the men's tournament in two of the last three seasons, UP is looking to go back-to-back for the first time since they won the titles in Seasons 73 and 74. While they will be missing the services of graduated players in Ian Clarino and Ace Villanueva, the Fighting Maroons still boast a talented young core led by offensive weapons King Miyagi and JB Borlongan.

Welcoming UP to the 81st season will be NU, who have yet to record a win this season after figuring in draws in their first two matches. The Bulldogs looked like they were on their way to claiming their first three points of the year, until a last-minute goal from UST forced a 2-2 draw.

UP and NU meet at 3:00 PM.

Kicking things off on Thursday will be a battle between the top two teams in the standings, as University of Santo Tomas meets Far Eastern University.

After dominating in their opening day matchup against De La Salle, UST has slipped a bit, surrendering a draw to UST and then fighting back to hold NU to a draw as well. The Season 80 runners-up still enjoy the top spot right now, and look to even extend their lead when they face FEU.

FEU also started the season on a strong note after dismantling UE, 4-1. Against Ateneo however, the Tamaraws were also victimized by a late equalizer to settle for a 1-1 draw. A win for FEU will immediately rocket them into the top spot in the standings.

FEU and UST face off at 9:00 AM.

A pair of teams looking for their second victories will share the pitch in the second game of the afternoon, as De La Salle University meets University of the East.

The Green Archers finally notched their first win of the season, and it came courtesy of rookie Mohammad Almohjili, at the expense of Adamson University, who were off to their best start ever. Now, DLSU looks to continue the momentum against UE.

UE's first win of the season could be considered an upset, as they knocked off perennial contenders Ateneo de Manila thanks to an early goal from Louie Polinag. Hoping to finally crack the top four this season, UE tries to add another win to their record, this time against Ateneo archrivals DLSU.

DLSU and UE clash at 1:00 PM.
