Three-time defending champion De La Salle University goes for its fourth straight win.
Multi-titled head coach Ramil De Jesus sees University of the Philippines as one of De La Salle University’s biggest threats in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
De Jesus warned his three-time defending champions Lady Spikers to keep their guards up when they battle the Lady Maroons Saturday at the Big Dome.
“UP talagang kasi kahit ang second stringers nu’n mabibigat,” said De Jesus, whose squad will stake its perfect 3-0 record at 4:00 p.m. in the match that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
DLSU is the only unbeaten team in the field and is on a 14-game winning streak since last year.
The Lady Spikers were tested by a young but feisty National University last Wednesday before escaping the Lady Bulldogs’ bite in four sets.
Meanwhile, the Lady Maroons are coming off a four-set defeat at the hands of University of Sto. Tomas in a game that saw UP miss the services of starting setter Ayel Estranero, who was recovering from food poisoning.
UP is on a three-way tie at 2-1 mark with the Tigresses and Ateneo de Manila University.
“Tinalo ng UST ‘yun so paghahandaan din namin kung paano sila talunin, may weak point din sila sana ma-maximize din namin ‘yun sa Saturday,” said De Jesus.
Estranero is expected to make a return to pilot UP’s arsenal of hitters led by Isa Molde, Tots Carlos and Justine Dorog against DLSU’s Des Cheng, May Luna, Aduke Ogunsanya and rookie Jolina Dela Cruz.
