Rookie Eya Laure will try to help rally University of Sto. Tomas to its second straight win in a showdown against Far Eastern University.
University of Sto. Tomas tries to spark a winning streak in a clash with Far Eastern University side looking to arrest a losing skid in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome on Saturday.
After a morale-boosting win over University of the Philippines last week, the Tigresses hunt for good follow up in their 2:00 p.m. encounter with the Lady Tamaraws. The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
UST defeated the Lady Maroons, who played without starting setter Ayel Estranero who was recovering from food poisoning, in four sets for a 2-1 win-loss record at second spot tied with its victim and tormentor Ateneo de Manila University.
“Maganda ang start namin and we hope na we’ll continue this until the last game of the season. Nagi-aim kami ng mas mataas every game. We will play na wala ng bukas,” said UST coach Kungfu Reyes, who will rely on veterans Sisi Rondina, Milena Alessandrini and top rookie Eya Laure.
FEU, on the other hand, is on a two-game slump after three outings tied with University of the East and National University.
The Lady Tams are coming off a sorry five-set loss at the hands of the Lady Eagles last Sunday. It was a painful loss for FEU, which led the match 2-0 before collapsing.
Despite the defeat, head coach George Pascua remains positive but challenges his wards to show a winning character in another acid test.
“Lahat ng teams very unpredictable, hindi ka pwedeng mag-relax. Kung sino ang mas gustong manalo ‘yun ang mananalo,” he said. “It’s character na eh, hindi na sa skills eh kasi lahat ‘yan nakita na natin.”
Veterans Heather Guino-o, Jerrili Malabanan and Celine Domingo must step up their game and provide the much-needed support to backup rookie Lycha Ebon, who has been leading FEU on offense with 12.3 points per outing.
