Ricci Rivero's time in UP has been nothing but a success thus far
Ricci Rivero has been with the University of the Philippines for almost a year now.
It was only on Saturday at the Ayala Malls Feliz in Pasig, however, that he finally made his UAAP debut in maroon and green.
And after more than a year of being out of UAAP action, Rivero let it all out in his first official game as a Fighting Maroon, scoring all but four points in his team’s 13-9 victory versus National University to start the UAAP 81 3x3 Tournament.
Yes, by his lonesome, the one-time Mythical Team member matched all that the Bulldogs could muster.
Afterward, he only joy at being able to don school colors once more in the UAAP. “Sobrang saya ko to participate in the UAAP again. Siyempre, ang sarap i-represent my school which is UP,” he said.
Indeed, Rivero, one of the most promising young talents in the Philippines, was forced to sit out for quite some time to serve his residency. “I’ve been waiting for this (for the longest time). I haven’t been doing anything last year besides studying and working myself back,” he shared.
He then continued, “Siyempre, babalik pa rin ako sa mahal ko talaga which is basketball.”
Alongside top scoring for his new team in just his first official game, the 21-year-old also showed glimpses of the magic he could very well be making with Gomez de Liano brothers Javi and Juan as well as Will Gozum. “Bago pa lang ako sa UP and sila talaga yung really known sa UP community, yung true UP. Dahil dun, sila talaga yung may chemistry,” he said.
He then continued, “And yun yung wino-work ko for now – forming chemistry with each and every member of UP.”
