UAAP Season 81: Lady Tams end skid

Far Eastern University rediscovered its winning ways with a four-set victory over University of Sto. Tomas.
Far Eastern University arrested a two-game losing slump after taking down a limping University of Sto. Tomas side, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, 27-25, Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.
The Lady Tamaraws returned in the win column for an even 2-2 win-loss record after coming back from a set down and taking advantage of the Tigresses losing one of its main arsenal in Milena Alessandrini to a knee injury late in the second set.
Celine Domingo and Heather Guino-o showed the way for FEU, which staved off the Tigresses’ late fourth set fightback. Domingo fired 17 points off nine attacks, six kill blocks and a pair of aces for the Lady Tams.
FEU was able to turn the tables around in the secod set with UST stunned from the injury sustained by Alessandrini, whose left knee buckled after an awkward landing and was stretchered out of the court with teh Tigresses up 18-17. The Lady Tams rallied with a closing 8-2 blitz to even the match.
FEU controlled the third set and even led the Tigresses 24-21 before UST behind Sisi Rondina, who played through cramps, and rookie Eya Laure sparked a last ditch charge. Laure forced a deuce at 25 by breaking the Lady Tams' two-man block.
Dimdim Pacres committed a service error in the next play, Jeanette Villareal blocked Laure before the UST freshman miscalculated her off speed attack that went straight to the net that sealed FEU's two-hour, six-minute victory.
"Intense but sabi ko nga sa players kanina sa dugout ang turning point yung game ngayon. Either kapag nanalo tayo gaganda ang magiging standing natin and at the same time tataas ang morale. Kapag natalo tayo trabaho pa rin tayo. Ayun nanalo naman," said LadyTams coach George Pascua.
Guino-o scored 14 points, 13 off attacks, with 11 receptions and seven digs while rookie Lycha Ebon tallied 11 markers for FEU, which received 35 points off teh Espana-based squad's errors.
UST dropped to 2-2 card.
Laure led the Tigresses with 20 points while Rondina had 16 markers, 15 digs and 12 excellent receptions. Caitlyn Viray had seven points while Alessandrini chipped in five markers before succumbing to a suspected MCL injury.
