UAAP Season 81: Pascua lauds FEU’s maturity

Far Eastern University head coach George Pascua liked what he saw in his team during the crucial closing stretch of the fourth set against University of Sto. Tomas.
Pascua saw in his wards the thing missing in their previous two outings: maturity.
The Lady Tamaraws weathered the late fourth set rally of the Tigresses to escape with a 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, 27-25, win that snapped their two-game slide Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.
FEU survived UST’s fightback from a 21-24 deficit in the extended fourth set to even its record to 2-2 tied with its victim.
Na-realize naman nila kahit papaano, kumapit hanggang huli,” said Pascua.
The victory lifted the morale of the Morayta-based squad, which came from a stinging loss to Ateneo de Manila University last week. FEU held a two-set lead in that encounter before collapsing in the next three.
“So ito na siguro ‘yung magiging start ulit ng momentum namin para magtuloy-tuloy na ‘yung winning streak namin,” said Celine Domingo, who led the Lady Tams with 17 points.
Domingo poured nine attacks with six of FEU’s 16 kill blocks and a couple of aces.
The Lady Tams saw the Tigresses, who lost top hitter Milena Alessandrini to a left knee injury in the second set, come back to life after erasing a 21-24 deficit and turning it to a 25-24 advantage. FEU saved a set point before Jeanette Villareal scored on a kill block on Eya Laure. An attack error by Laure in the next play completed the Lady Tams escape.
