Nieto still ‘Matty Ice’ for Ateneo even in UAAP 81 3x3

Matt Nieto continues to be as clutch as they come
The rematch between UAAP 81 five-on-five finalists Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines on Sunday inside the Ayala Malls Feliz in Pasig was as good as advertised.
With under a minute remaining, the Katipunan rivals stood on even ground at 10-all.
It was at that point that Matt Nieto yet again proved to be ice-cold – even in 3x3.
The Blue Eagles posted up Ange Kouame and the Ivorian tower put up a short stab that hit back rim.
The ball bounced to just where Nieto was and he only spun past Ricci Rivero before rising for his own short stab.
That would prove to be the game-winner as Juan Gomez de Liano fell short of saving the day for the Fighting Maroons.
With that, the two-time UAAP champion added to his ever-growing list of clutch credentials – which already includes big shots against archrival De La Salle University, fearless makes in the championship rounds, and a booming triple that fell Chinese Taipei in last year’s Jones Cup.
“Nakaka-pressure magkaroon nang ganung monicker because you have to prove yourself parati, but I’m always ready to prove myself naman,” he said afterward. “Yung ‘Matty Ice,’ talagang I do my best to live up to it para naman ‘di ko ma-disappoint yung mga taong nagtitiwala sa akin.”
