It's a long way back home for three-time defending champion De La Salle University following a stinging loss.
Multi-titled head coach Ramil De Jesus politely declined to grant reporters a chance for a postgame interview as he and the rest of the three-time defending champion De La Salle University left their locker room following a devastating loss at the hands of an incomplete University of Sto. Tomas.
The Lady Spikers marched out of the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan with blank expressions on their faces.
They knew it’ll be a long journey back to Taft.
For the first time in 11 years DLSU dropped back-to-back elimination round games after suffering a 20-25, 22-25, 17-25, defeat against the Tigresses sans top hitter Milena Alessandrini Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
The loss came just four days after the Lady Spikers absorbed a stinging five-set defeat at the hands of University of the Philippines.
No DLSU player reached double-digit scoring with Norielle Ipac, rookie Jolina Dela Cruz and Aduke Ogunsanya posting eight markers each while Des Cheng went cold with just seven markers as the Lady Spikers went quiet with just 28 attack points while giving away 23 points on errors.
UST handed the Lady Spikers their second straight defeat for the first time since bowing down to Ateneo de Manila University in the Season 77 Finals and their first two-game elims losing slump since DLSU forfeited 11 straight games after fielding ineligible player Jacq Alarca in Season 70.
The Tigresses also defeated the Lady Spikers in straight sets in Season 78 – the last time UST scored a win over DLSU.
DLSU slid down to a three-way tie at third to fifth with UST and Far Eastern University with 3-2 win-loss slate.
The Lady Spikers will get a chance to bounce back on Saturday against University of the East before the much-awaited rematch of last year’s Finals against FEU on March 16.
