Skipper Poi Saldivar was one of two Tamaraws who scored to help FEU defeat NU, 2-1 in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament
A pair of goals in the first proved to be enough cushion for Far Eastern University as they defeated National University, 2-1, in UAAP Season 81 Men’s Football action, Thursday afternoon at the FEU-Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.
Searching for their second win of the season, the Tamaraws took control of the match early, courtesy of Gilbert Mendoza, who salvaged a shot from an attempt by Poi Saldivar that was denied in the 20th minute.
Saldivar made good on his second attempt on goal, after capitalizing on a miscue from NU goalkeeper Christian Betanio to double the Tamaraws lead in the 35th minute.
With an eternity of time left to mount a comeback, NU looked put the pressure on the FEU defensive line, but it wasn’t until the 88th minute that the Bulldogs managed to get on the board, courtesy of an excellent shot from rookie strike Ivan Ouano off a cross from Jekar Sullano.
The NU rally ultimately came up short, as FEU held on for their second win of the season.
“This season, we haven’t lost yet, all the games, we get points, even if three points or one point, and I can see all the UAAP teams, we don’t know who’s going to win or who’s going to lose, the levels are the same. We’re lucky to get the win today,” said FEU head coach Bobae Park, who stressed on the level of talent in the UAAP today.
FEU improves to two wins and two draws for eight points.
NU drops to two draws and three losses for three points.
