Kapag binigyan ka na ng chance ni coach dapat hindi mo na sayangin. Don’t waste it -- Tin Tiamzon
When De La Salle University head coach Ramil De Jesus needed a veteran presence inside the court for the ailing Lady Spikers, Tin Tiamzon was ready to accept the task.
The fourth year open spiker delivered the goods and showcased great leadership in her first start to power DLSU to a 25-18, 25-20, 25-18, win over University of the East Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Tiamzon came off the bench in the Lady Spikers’ first five games. But when Des Cheng needed to rest to recuperate from a right shoulder injury, and May Luna playing through pain with a swollen left cheek, it was Tiamzon who pulled the Lady Spikers together to snap a rare-two game slide.
She finished with 10 points highlighted by nine attacks with five excellent receptions.
“For the whole first few games ready naman ako whenever coach wants me to go in the court. I want to contribute,” said Tiamzon.
“Binigyan niya ako ng chance yun din same kay Marrione (Alba) alam ko na malaki ang tiwala ni coach sa amin as second six,” she added. “Kapag binigyan ka na ng chance ni coach dapat hindi mo na sayangin. Don’t waste it.”
Tiamzon steered the Lady Spikers to the right direction in the challenging match that saw DLSU trail early in the last two sets.
“As much as we can we try to fill each other’s weaknesses,” said Tiamzon. “Parang cover up lang natin ang weaknesses natin and move as one.”
She did well in covering the spot left by Cheng, who suffered the injury during DLSU’s shocking straight sets loss to University of Sto. Tomas Wednesday.
“Since noong Wednesday I knew naman na mayroon si Ate Des (na injury) and she needs to rest. Sabi ko, ‘Ate ako na bahala rest ka muna, take your time. Basta alam mo na cover kita,’” said Tiamzon.
The Lady Spikers will have a full week’s rest before their Finals rematch against Far Eastern University.
