"We wanted to finish it" -- Kat Tolentino
When the going gets rough, who do the Ateneo Lady Eagles turn to?
That's how Maddie Madayag, Kat Tolentino, and Deanna Wong described the final stretch of the third set, when the Ateneo Lady Eagles and UP Lady Maroons went neck-and-neck.
Sure, Ateneo led by two sets, but UP didn't let down their guard and was able to tie things up at 24 as a final attempt to come back.
"[W]e saw a lot of fight in them and it’s good to see that our team didn’t back down and didn’t let up and continued fighting and it’s just a show of character that we could finish that last set," recalled Tolentino in the post-game presser.
Madayag then told her teammates to keep steady and withstand the furious UP rally.
"We just reminded each other na kapit lang, walang bibitaw, as in we really just had the right mindset during that time," said Madayag.
"We wanted to finish it," added Tolentino.
"Sobrang walang bumitaw sa aming lahat," seconded Wong.
"No, we didn’t consider na magkakaroon ng 4th set," clarified Madayag.
And with it, Madayag's block and Wong's drop clinched the Lady Eagles their fourth win of the season, the best mark in the UAAP.
