Iba naman talaga pag-college, iba ‘yung pinag-uusapan so ‘yung high school, nandoon na iyon, leave it there -- Eya Laure
University of Sto. Tomas rookie Eya Laure downplayed any angle of payback in her rematch with the core of her high school rivals Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
The top rookie of the year contender poured 20 points in UST’s 26-24, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, victory over National University that handed the Tigresses their fourth win in six outings.
Laure faced off against former Nazareth School of NU standouts Ivy Lacsina, Princess Robles and libero Jennifer Nierva – the core of the Bullpups who ruled the league for four straight years.
“Ano naman, hindi ko naman iniisip nang ganun. Iba naman talaga pag-college, iba ‘yung pinag-uusapan so ‘yung high school, nandoon na iyon, leave it there,” said Laure, who together with sister EJ delivered UST’s last high school title back in Season 76.
Laure during her last years with the Junior Tigresses failed to reclaim the crown as the Bullpups built their dynasty.
Leaving that old rivalry behind, Laure puts her focus on the job at hand.
“Parang etong college, bago naman ito parang ‘yung level ng laro dito, iba naman so iyon nga sabi nila coach na bago ako pumasok: ‘Kung ikaw, star player ka noong high school, parang sa college iba,’” she said.
“So kailangang mo rin kumain nang maraming bigas para makapantay, makasabay sa college na level,” Laure added.
Laure is currently second in the league in scoring with an average of 17 points per game behind teammate Sisi Rondina, who norms with 17.4 per outing.
