Well it’s exciting because I can see her improve a lot. Right now, I’m challenged to do the same -- Faith Nisperos on former high school rival Eya Laure
Ateneo de Manila University-commit Faith Nispeos is looking forward to following the same route taken by her former high school rival and friend Eya Laure when her time comes to step into the collegiate stage.
The four-time UAAP high school champion is ready to prove herself worthy of the blue and white uniform just like the way Laure slowly built her reputation as a vital cog for the University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses in her rookie season.
“Well it’s exciting because I can see her improve a lot. Right now, I’m challenged to do the same,” said the 19-year old open spiker.
Nisperos and Laure had a colorful high school rivalry with the former’s Nazareth School of NU prevailing over the latter’s UST Junior Tigresses in their last four Finals showdowns.
“Well she’s really doing good right now,” Nisperos said of Laure, who is currently the tournament’s second leading scorer, top attacker in terms of accuracy and making a strong case for the Rookie of the Year award. “So I’m looking forward to playing with her.”
Nisperos, who won two Season and two Finals Most Valuable Player awards, is still waiting for the result of her Ateneo College Entrance Exam she took last January 19 to formally earn her wings as a Lady Eagles.
“It’s really my dream school, so that’s one big factor na kaya ko napili. Siyempre, it’s not that NU can’t provide what I want. But I just see that Ateneo can provide more of it. That’s why I chose this school,” said Nisperos.
But more than the thrill of playing for arguably the most popular collegiate volleyball team in the country, Nisperos stressed that it was ultimately the standard of education Ateneo has to offer that made her choose the Katipunan-based school.
“Ano I think the challenge. I’d be more challenged with the study environment. And then, siyempre, Ateneo is a school that we look up to,” she said. “A goal for myself is I want to reach that standard that they’re having. Yun ang gusto ko.”
