Adamson University head coach Onyok Getigan rued the atrocious number of errors the Lady Falcons committed in their four-set loss to Ateneo de Manila University on Wednesday that buried the squad down the cellar.
Bale wala na kung mag-error, libre lang mag-error,” said Getigan following the Lady Falcons’ 8-25, 25-22, 16-25, 10-25, loss Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“’Yun ang gusto nating alisin sa kanila eh,” added Getigan, who replaced Air Padda three games ago. “Hirap kasi parang may nakatatak sa kanila na ganoon eh, every game laging may error. Ang dami.”
The Lady Falcons threw away 35 points of their miscues including 11 in a disappointing opening set showing that saw them take a 4-0 lead early only to fall into a dry spell and allow the Lady Eagles to make a 17-1 fightback.
Adamson dropped to a two-game losing skid for a 1-5 win-loss record tied with University of the East at the cellar.
Getigan felt that his team lacked the focus and drive to achieve their goal of contending for a Final Four spot.
“Iba talaga, iba ang motivation nila. Kulang sa motivation at goal nila sa sarili nila,” he said.
Getigan was specifically disappointed with his rookie setters MJ Igao and Nikka Yandoc. Igao had 18 excellent sets off 134 attempts while Yandoc played only in the opening set.
“’Yung dalawang setter kasi, bago. Kulang sa exposure talaga,” he lamented. “Sinusubukan natin solusyunan agad. Gusto natin manalo.”
Despite their string of misfortunes, Getigan remains positive of their chances to advance in the Final Four.
The Lady Falcons will close the first round on Sunday against University of the Philippines.
