Ganun ang result kasi ginusto naming manalo. Pinagtrabahuhan namin every point. Alam naming mahirap pero gagawin namin for the people beside us -- Jennifer Nierva
National University rookie libero Jennifer Nierva credited the Lady Bulldogs' morale-boosting win over University of the Philippines to their collective desire to snap their losing skid.
“Ganun ang result kasi ginusto naming manalo. Pinagtrabahuhan namin every point. Alam naming mahirap pero gagawin namin for the people beside us,” said Nierva following NU’s 25-17, 14-25, 17-25, 25-23, 17-15, upset in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Bulldogs arrested a three-game slide and improved to a 2-4 win-loss record at solo sixth spot behind the Lady Maroons, who fell to their second straight defeat for a 3-3 slate.
“Ako no doubt ako sa mga teammates ko kasi nakikita ko talaga na nagtrabaho kami sa training and I know na lalabas yun sa game,” said Nierva, who finished with 29 excellent receptions and 26 digs.
NU saved four match points and turned a 10-14 deficit to a 15-14 lead after an amazing 5-0 scoring barrage. Isa Molde stopped the bleeding for the Lady Maroons. Rookie Ivy Lacsina pushed the Lady Bulldogs back on top, before Gelina Luceno sealed the big win with a kill block on Tots Carlos.
“Siguro ‘yung pagkapanalo namin ngayon, kaya naming patunayan na ‘yung bawat isa, may trust talaga na gusto manalo, ‘yung team na ito,” said Nierva of NU, which lost rookie setter Joyme Cagande to an ACL injury in their debut game while veterans Risa Sato, Jorelle Singh, Jasmine Nabor, Roma Doromal skipped the season.
“Kulang kami pero may gusto kami i-achieve na hindi namin sinasabi na ganito lang team namin kaya talo kami. Hindi, ginawa namin siyang motivation,” she added.
The Lady Bulldogs will close the first round of eliminations on Saturday against streaking Ateneo de Manila University.
