UAAP Season 81: Bulldogs, Blue Eagles continue rampage

Bryan Bagunas dropped 17 points to power National University to its fifth victory in a row.
Bryan Bagunas flexed his muscles once again to carry defending champion National University to its fifth straight win over listless University of the Philippines, 25-19, 25-17, 25-15, Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The national team member posted 17 points highlighted by 14 attacks to power the Bulldogs to a 5-1 win-loss record behind league-leading Far Eastern University (6-0).
Skipper Francis Saura and Angelo Almendras chipped in 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for NU, which needed only 71 minutes to dispose the Fighting Maroons.
The Bulldogs hammered 44 attacks thru the help of rookie setter Joshua Retamar, who tallied 24 excellent sets.
NU will close the first round of eliminations against archrival Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday.
The Blue Eagles also built momentum heading into their Finals rematch after knotting their third straight win at the expense of skidding Adamson University, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21, in the first game.
Russian-American Tony Koyfman showed the way for Ateneo with 14 points – all from attacks – while Ron Medalla and Gian Glorioso scored 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Katipunan-based squad.
The Blue Eagles improved to 4-2 slate while sending the Falcons to their third straight defeat in six starts tied with University of Sto. Tomas.
Paolo Pablico had 11 points while Leo Miranda got 10 for Adamson.
Meanwhile, UP remained winless in six games.
John Millete scored 12 while Jerry San Pedro got 11 for the Fighting Maroons.
