UAAP 81 Football: Adamson holds top-seeded FEU to 1-1 draw
Last-placed Adamson held top-seeded FEU to a 1-1 draw in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament

Cellar-dwelling Adamson University continues to come up with surprises in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football tournament after holding top-seeded Far Eastern University to a 1-1 draw, Thursday afternoon at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.

Coming in hot after back-to-back wins against NU and UP, the FEU Tamaraws were poised to collect another win against an Adamson side who were coming off a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Ateneo.

The first half, however, turned out to be a tightly contested on, as neither side conceded a goal to head to the halftime break on a 0-0 scoreline.

It was in the 61st minute that FEU finally managed to get on the board, with rookie Gio Pabualan converting off a strike from the right side off a well-placed pass from Kim Minsu.

Just four minutes later, the Soaring Falcons pulled even after Kim Bardaje made good on a header off a free kick from Jusuel Pilarca.

Looking to finally capture that elusive maximum point result, Adamson became more aggressive as they managed to hold off the Tamaraws on defense, while pushing their offense.

In the 88th minute, it appeared as if FEU were headed to victory after Pabualan found the back of the net once, more but the goal was instead ruled as off-side.

Also in the final minutes of the match, FEU managed another excellent shot on goal, only to be denied by Adamson keeper CJ Viray.

After 90 minutes of regulation time plus another four minutes of injury time, Adamson and FEU settled for the 1-1 scoreline.

"Talagang dumaan kami sa butas ng karayom," said Adamson head coach Arvin Soliman, who's on his first year as mentor for the Adamson Football program. "We lost against Ateneo the last time, and ang laki ng scoreline, four-nil. We went back to the training board, since we know this FEU team is very tough, talagang sila nga yung number one ngayon, the focus of this game was we were going to defend."

"Siguro ngayon nagising ulit sila. After we draw against UE, we lost against Ateneo, talagang pa-baba yung morale nung team eh, lalo nung natalo kami against Ateneo, talagang bumaba. Siguro this game, na na-draw namin yung top-seeded team, siguro dahan-dahan ulit kami babalik to form para makuha yung three points na ayaw pa ibigay sa amin," he added.

With the draw, Adamson moves to four draws and two losses for four points.

FEU moves to three wins and three draws for 12 points
