Rookie striker Ivan Ouano scored twice to help NU earn their first win of the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament
Rookie stiker Ivan Ouano was on point in the second half as led National University to a 2-0 win over University of the East for their first win in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament, Thursday morning at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.
After a scoreless first half of action, the Bulldogs took charge in the second frame, as Ouano opened the scoring in the 47th minute.
Wanting to avoid a second consecutive defeat, the Red Warriors looked to pull even but ultimately could not get it done.
Instead, it was NU who managed to convert once again, as Ouano shut the door on any Red Warriors rally in the 88th minute.
"Yung composition ng team natin ngayon, marami talaga yung rookies, kaya yung first games, adjustment pa talaga sa tournament," said NU head coach Mari Aberasturi. "Ngayon, makita natin this game na mukhang adjusted na sila, and alam nila kung gaano ka-importante yung game na 'to so yung maganda dito sa nakita mo na lahat is contributing to the team effort."
With the win, NU improves to one win, two draws, and three losses for five points.
UE meanwhile, drops to two wins, one draw, and three losses for seven points.
