De Jesus challenges Lady Spikers to toughen up
Kasi sa bawat teams na nae-encounter natin makikita mo ‘yung mga leader doon medyo matigas ang character. So kailangan ganoon din -- DLSU head coach Ramil De Jesus

De La Salle University head coach Ramil De Jesus felt that the Lady Spikers were ‘soft’ as an assessment in their campaign in the first round of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.

The four-peat-seeking squad closed the round in dominating fashion after sweeping Far Eastern University, 25-15, 25-19, 26-24, Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

DLSU improved to 5-2 win-loss record at solo second spot but De Jesus wanted to see more from his team.

“Sinasabi ko naman sa team ‘yun na kailangan lang matigas ang character,” he said.

The mentor wanted his wards to bring the same mentality that brought DLSU its 11 titles.

“Kasi sa bawat teams na nae-encounter natin makikita mo ‘yung mga leader doon medyo matigas ang character. So kailangan ganoon din,” added De Jesus, whose wards bowed down to University of Sto. Tomas and University of the Philippines in back-to-back outings.

“And ready pa naman silang i-improve ang sarili sa bawat training.

Sabi ko sa kanila, ‘hindi man tayo talented gaya ng ibang team, nadadaan naman sa tyaga ‘yan eh,’” de Jesus said.

The multi-titled coach expects to see a different DLSU squad come second round.

“Mas mataas na lalaruin and mas solid na galaw like nag-iisa sila, and ‘yung siguro, mas mabalikan ‘yung mga tumalo sa amin noong first round,” he vowed.
