UST coach Reyes credits rookie setter Galanza on streak
Nasa kanya ‘yung criteria eh -- UST coach Kungfu Reyes on rookie setter MaFe Galanza

University of Sto. Tomas head coach Kungfu Reyes credited rookie setter MaFe Galanza as the catalyst in the Tigresses’ three straight victories to close the first round of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.

Galanza tallied 14 excellent sets in the Tigresses’ 25-18, 25-14, 25-20, win Sunday over University of the East as UST moved to a share of the second spot with defending three-time champion De La Salle University.

Behind her good ball distribution, the Tigresses were able to pummel the Lady Warriors with 45 attack points with league-leading scorers Sisi Rondina and rookie Eya Laure scoring on high percentages.

Rondina hammered 16-of-34 hits while Laure had an 11-of-23 smashing clip.

Nasa kanya ‘yung criteria eh,” added Reyes.

Galanza, a Palarong Pambansa recruit, averaged 5.6 excellent sets per frame in UST’s winning run as a starter.

Niligawan ko talaga,” he added.

Reyes considered Galanza as a ‘blessing’ for a team that is looking to make a return in the Final Four since Season 79.

“So malaking bagay, napakalaking blessing ng bata para sa amin, sana ganoon din kami sa kanya,” Reyes said.
