Graduating hitter Sisi Rondina had a career game but the University of Sto. Tomas star couldn’t help but feel that the Tigresses' defeat was on her.
The Tigresses for the 15th straight time in their head-to-head matches since Season 74 fell victim to Ateneo de Manila University despite Rondina’s record-tying 35 points.
UST squandered a two-set match lead and allowed the Lady Eagles to escape with a 19-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-22, 15-11, win Wednesday for their seventh straight win in eight outings in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
‘Parang maganda ‘to ah kasi nagtutulungan kami.’ Kinapos lang talaga kami and napunta sa kanila ang momentum,” said Rondina, who had 30 attacks, three kill blocks and two aces while adding 25 digs for an all-around performance.
Kaya nga may fifth set,” she added.
Rondina scored her 35th point on an off the block kill that cut UST’s deficit, 11-13, in the deciding frame but she then committed an overcooked attack before hitting the antenna on the last of her 102 spike attempts of the match.
Parang ako ang nagpatalo kasi parang marami pa ang mangyayari kung napuntos ko ‘yun eh,” said Rondina, who tied the most number of points set by a women’s division player since former Queen Eagle Alyssa Valdez registered the same productions in a five-set loss back in January 20, 2013.
The loss that snapped the Tigresses’ three-game winning streak and pulled them down to a 5-3 slate may have dampened Rondina’s feat of becoming the Espana-based squad’s best scorer in a single game surpassing legendary star Aiza Maizo’s 33 in Season 72 but the UST veteran kept her head held up high.
Eh wala eh may nananalo, may natututo. Matututo rin kami sa ginalaw namin kanina,” she said.
