De Jesus to focus on service in next DLSU practice
Siguro unang-unang gagawin namin, mag-serve ng buong practice. So ‘yun ang problema eh, yung pinaka-basic -- mag-serve -- DLSU coach Ramil De Jesus

ANTIPOLO CITY --- Head coach Ramil De Jesus already planned his team’s practice routine on Monday.

It will be a session with long service drills.

“Siguro unang-unang gagawin namin, mag-serve ng buong practice. So ‘yun ang problema eh, yung pinaka-basic -- mag-serve,” said a very disappointed De Jesus, who saw his team throw away 17 errors from the service line in a stinging 16-25, 24-26, 25-19, loss to University of the Philippines on Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Ynares Sports Center here.

The three-time defending champion Lady Spikers were swept by the Lady Maroons in their elimination round head-to-head, their first to an opponent since Season 79 when they bowed down to archrival Ateneo de Manila University.

De Jesus was particularly disappointed with their service game, a facet of the game that is one of DLSU’s best weapons.

What hurt the Lady Spikers the most in the match was the timing of their service errors. DLSU committed their service miscues in the closing stretch of the second and third sets.

Tied at 24 in the second frame, rookie Jolina dela Cruz bricked her service that gave UP a chance to take the frame.

In the third, the Lady Spikers had a chance to come back from a 19-23 deficit but Lourdes Clemente, who was under tremendous pressure and jeering from the crowd, sent her service way short that pushed UP at match point.

Overall, Clemente had five service errors, Aduke Ogunsanya, Marionne Alba and Dela Cruz got three each while Tin Tiamzon, Desiree Cheng and May Luna committed one apiece.
