Hindi ko masabi (kung gaano katagal) pero sure this week rest muna siya back to recovery muna for her -- FEU physical therapist Marilou Regidor on injured rookie Lycha Ebon
ANTIPOLO CITY --- Far Eastern University rookie Lycha Ebon is set to undergo an MRI exam on Monday and is expected to take a week-long rest according to team physical therapist Marilou Regidor.
Ebon hurt her right knee early in the fifth set of the Lady Tamaraws’ razor-thin 30-32, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13, win over the Adamson Lady Falcons Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Ynares Sports Center here.
“Hindi ko masabi (kung gaano katagal) pero sure this week rest muna siya back to recovery muna for her,” said Regidor of Ebon, the Lady Tams leading scorer with 13.7 points per game in the first round.
The FEU hitter was stretchered off court after her knee buckled following a hit that put the Lady Tams up, 3-1. She scored 19 points before abruptly ending her day.
“Medyo okay na siya naka-braces na siya, ini-stabilize ko na so as of now in pain pa siya so hindi ko pa ma-recheck yung injury niya” said Regidor.
“According to my interview to her ‘yung pangyayari naka-plant na siya, naka-squat na siya and then nag-twist out,” she added. “Nag-recoil siya to twist in so di ko naman inaano na super major injury siya.”
The therapist added that they will have to wait for the result of her MRI to confirm the extent of her injury.
For now, FEU is relieved that Ebon’s knee showed only minor inflammation.
“Hindi naman masyado maga ngayon so medyo less na ‘yung worry ko. According to my interview to her parang MCL or quad tendon sprain kasi sabi niya may nag-pop,” said Regidor.
Aside from Ebon, the Lady Tams also lost Jeanette Villareal in the extended first set to a sprained right ankle.
“Recurring sprain lang pero at least na-manage naman niya ankle sprain so makakalaro (pa) siya,” said Regidor.
FEU, which improved to 5-3 win-loss slate tied with University of Sto. Tomas, will take on University of the East on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
