Repeat-seeking National University looks to take the solo lead in a rematch against University of the East.
Defending champion National University gets a chance to grab the solo lead for the first time on Wednesday when the red-hot Bulldogs square off with the University of the East Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Tied at the top spot with first round tormentor Far Eastern University with a 7-1 win-loss slate, NU seeks to seize the lead in the 8:00 a.m. battle that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
The Bulldogs are on a seven-game tear including a straight sets drubbing of Adamson University last week to open the second round.
Top Most Valuable Player candidate Bryan Bagunas will again lead NU’s march alongside Angelo Almendras, Francis Saura, James Natividad and rookie setter Joshua Retamar.
UE sports a 2-6 mark and is coming off a sorry five-set loss to cellar-dweller University of the Philippines last Sunday.
The Bulldogs whipped the Red Warriors in straight sets in the first round.
Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University hopes to ride the crest of its morale-boosting win over erstwhile unbeaten FEU in a showdown with De La Salle University at 10:00 a.m.
The Blue Eagles defeated the Tamaraws in four sets last week to hold a 5-3 slate at third spot.
The Green Spikers beat University of Sto. Tomas last Sunday to tie their victims at 3-5 mark.
Ateneo won against DLSU in straight sets in their first meeting.
