Kai Sotto will keep moving forward in his journey to the NBA for his family and friends
Kai Sotto is the Philippines' next hope for a Filipino to make it to the NBA.
While the 7-foot-2 tantalizing talent has what it takes to get there, the 16-year-old kid, of course, only acknowledges to feel pressured. "Siyempre, nandyan lagi yung pressure lalo na parang patagal nang patagal na akong naglalaro ng basketball," he said in his send-off dinner hosted by Chooks-to-Go last Tuesday at EDSA Shangri-La in Mandaluyong.
At the same time, though, the UAAP 81 Juniors MVP is only welcoming the tall task ahead of him. "Ine-expect ko na mahihirapan talaga ako kasi bago pa man kami mag-decide, sabi na nung dad ko na 'di to magiging madali, magiging mahirap 'to," he shared.
He then continued, "Pero sabi rin niya sa akin, hindi ko makukuha lahat ng magagandang bagay ngayon kung 'di ko paghihirapan. Ako naman, naniniwala ako sa kanya kasi alam ko naman na makukuha ko yung dreams ko pag pinaghirapan ko talaga."
Indeed, Sotto has full faith in himself - and that's because his family and friends have full faith in him as well. "Iniisip ko lang yung mga tao sa room na 'to, mga kamag-anak ko, mga kaibigan ko, sila yung pinaghuhugutan ko ng lakas ko," he said as, alongside media, the Sotto clan and his teammates from Ateneo and Batang Gilas packed the venue as well.
He then continued, "Sila yung pinaghuhugutan ko ng lakas ko kasi alam ko kahit anong mangyari, nandyan sila para sa akin at hindi nila ako iiwan."
Apparently, together with his family and friends, the Philippines' towering teen is also being motivated by the outpouring of support he has received following his announcement. "Sobrang salamat po sa lahat ng nag-message. Sobrang gumaan yung feeling ko dahil sobrang suportado silang lahat para sa akin," he said.
