For the first time in more than two years, best friends Kai Sotto and Forthsky Padrigao will be apart
Kai Sotto will be leaving behind Ateneo de Manila High School to take the first step in his journey to the NBA.
Of course, the implications for the Blue Eaglets are nothing but big as they will be losing the reigning MVP who still has two years of eligibility in the UAAP Juniors.
In his stead as Katipunan's main man will now be playmaker Forthsky Padrigao.
Without a doubt, the 16-year-old is more than capable of making it happen as well, coming off a breakout season that eventually ended with him on the Mythical Team.
Still, there will now be a Sotto-sized hole in the middle for Ateneo.
And more than his impact on the court, his presence off of it will be sorely missed - especially for Padrigao.
As it turns out, though, even before the Philippines' towering teen decided, his best friend has been getting ready for their impending time away from one another. "Actually, noong 'di pa niya sinasabi, tinanggap ko na e. Sinanay ko na sarili ko na wala na siya," the latter said through chuckles in the former's sendoff dinner hosted by Chooks-to-Go last Tuesday at EDSA Shangri-La in Mandaluyong.
Indeed, adjustments have to be made as for the last two years, Sotto and Padrigao have been joined at the hip - from the Blue Eaglets to Batang Gilas as well as being self-proclaimed brothers on and off the court.
In the same light, though, the 5-foot-11 playmaker is only happy to see his towering running mate on track for his dream. "Nung in-announce na nga niya, parang 'Aalis na pala si Kai!' At the same time, masaya ako para sa kanya na ipu-pursue na niya yung dream niya," the former shared.
He then continued, "So happy for my brother."
Make no mistake, however - Sotto and Padrigao will not be bidding bye-bye to one another anytime soon. "Madalas naming gawin yung bonding eh. Normal na lang sa amin yun," Forthsky said.
He then continued, "Kaya yung goodbye, wala yun."
