Graduating hitter Desiree Cheng came into the match with just one thing on her mind: the three-time defending champion De La Salle University will not exit the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan without a win.

“Extra motivation is parang hindi ko na papayagan matalo basta basta yung team na ganu’n ganun lang kasi ang hirap sa part namin na makabangon from a loss,” said Cheng.

The open spiker hammered 14 spikes, two aces and a kill block for 17 points to lead the Lady Spikers to a 25-20, 25-18, 25-10, drubbing of National University on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.

The win gave DLSU its sixth win in nine games for a share of the second spot and more importantly brought back the confidence the Lady Spikers lost in a stinging straight sets loss to University of the Philippines on Sunday.

‘Yung motivation ko talaga kanina is silang lahat wala na sa akin, sila na lang talaga,” added Cheng, who was the only bright spot in DLSU’s loss against UP.

Cheng, who is still recovering from a lingering right shoulder injury, took it personally to improve her game and help rally her team to victory.

“At times kasi parang iisipin mo na parang wala kang nagawa. Kasi di ba it's a team sport, pero dapat lahat gagalaw. Motivated akong bumangon talaga.

The veteran now hopes to play consistently as DLSU aims to claim their fourth crown.

“Sana maging healthy pa. Sana, magtuloy-tuloy and hindi lang haggang ngayon 'yung points na yun,” said Cheng.
