NU libero Nierva: 'Anong dapat ko pang ibigay para mas maganda outcome?'

Jennifer Nierva and many in young NU are still getting used to being at the bottom half of the standings
National University fell for the seventh time in nine games in the UAAP Season 81 Women's Volleyball Tournament.
After their latest loss on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre, many noticed that libero Jennifer Nierva seemed to be teary-eyed.
Asked about it afterward, she answered, through several pauses, "Kasi high school days, I never felt this - na natatalo, na ganito yung standing."
At 2-7, the Lady Bulldogs are seventh in the standings nearing the end of the elimination round.
Without a doubt, this is uncharted territory for Nierva as well as Joyme Cagande, Ivy Lacsina, and Princess Robles as they composed the core of the NU outfit that had dominated high school volleyball in recent history.
The defensive specialist made it clear, though, that she knows full well that each and every one of the Lady Bulldogs are giving their all in the ongoing season. As she put it, "Everyone is making an effort to really try their best. Eh short talaga yung team and it's really hard for me kasi nga sanay ako na nananalo lagi, na maganda lagi yung pine-perform."
She then continued, "Iba po yung standard ko every time I play. Every time I play, gusto ko lagi what's best for the team."
Therein lies the reason why Nierva appeared to be emotional after they suffered their third straight setback - before this tournament, she could have counted with her fingers the losses she experienced.
Still, the rookie is also well aware that these struggles, new for her as they may be, will only make her and her teammates better. "Every time na 'di ko nakikita yung best namin, I'm really disappointed sa sarili ko na siguro, kulang pa. Kaya kanina, sobrang emotional ako kasi iniisip ko, ano yung kulang, ano yung dapat ko pang ibigay para mas maganda yung outcome ng next game namin," she said.
And even though their chances at the playoffs are getting dimmer and dimmer, Nierva said they will remain as one until the very end. "Sabi ni coach sa amin, the most important thing here is our relationship together. Natatalo man kami, dapat hindi mawawala yung pagmamahal namin sa isa't-isa," she shared.
She then continued, "Hindi man kami makapunta sa Final Four, it’s about how we're going to play the next game na buo kami."
