UP tries to get payback on Adamson for their 2-1 loss in the first round of the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament
MATCHES on THURSDAY, MARCH 28 (FEU Diliman)
9:00 AM - NU vs. UE
1:30 PM - UP vs. Adamson
3:30 PM - FEU
Defending champions University of the Philippines will have the chance to exact some revenge on Adamson University when the two sides meet again in the UAAP Season 81 Men's Football Tournament, Thursday afternoon at the FEU Diliman Football Field in Quezon City.
The struggling Fighting Maroons have some payback on their minds after the surging Soaring Falcons recorded their first win of the season at the expense of UP, 2-1, to close out the first round of the tournament.
King Miyagi put the Fighting Maroons ahead early, but a pair of goals from Allen Lozano in the second half gave the Falcons their breakthrough win in Season 81.
Now, the two sides meet again, with Adamson coming off a draw against NU, while UP is still reeling from their previous meeting with the Soaring Falcons.
UP will still be without six key players who are in Malaysia for National Team duties.
UP and Adamson battle at 1:30 PM.
Later that afternoon, league-leading Far Eastern University will look to tighten their grip of the top spot when they take on Ateneo de Manila University.
Finishing the first round on top of the standings with a league-best 15 points off four wins and three draws, the Tamaraws have enjoyed quite the turnaround this season, a far cry from their forgettable performance from the previous year. Now, they begin the second round with the hopes of securing their ticket back to the post-season.
Looking to get back on track after falling to rivals De La Salle University to close out the first round, Ateneo looks to rediscover the same focus and hunger that helped them to three-consecutive blow-out wins in the first round. They'll be starting the second half of the season without key players in Jarvey Gayoso and William Grierson.
FEU and Ateneo meet at 3:30 PM.
Kicking things off in the morning matchup will be a pair of post-season hunting squads in National University and University of the East.
Currently in the bottom half of the standings at nine points and seven points respectively, both NU and UE are still very much in the hunt for a coveted spot in the playoffs. To get there however, the two sides will need to get as much maximum point-results as possible. NU opened the second round with a 1-1 draw over Adamson, while UE suffered a stinging loss to UP off a last-minute goal to end their first round campaign.
NU and UE face off at 9:00 AM.
