Defending champion National University goes head-to-head with archrival Ateneo de Manila University with its amazing eight-game winning streak at stake.
Repeat-seeking National University looks to solidify its hold of the solo lead and continue its red-hot win streak in a rematch with archrival Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
Game time is at 10:00 a.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.
The Bulldogs are on a roll after a season-opening setback, winning their next eight games for the solo lead.
NU defeated University of the East in a dominating straight sets fashion last Wednesday. The Bulldogs set their eyes on making a repeat over the Blue Eagles, who NU blanked two weeks ago in their first meeting since dethroning Ateneo from its three-year reign last season.
Top Most Valuable Player contender Bryan Bagunas starred in the Bulldogs’ 25-19, 25-23, 25-16, demolition of the Blue Eagles in the first round.
NU will again pin its hopes on Bagunas as well as on rookie Angelo Almendras, James Natividad, Francis Saura and playmaker Joshua Retamar.
Ateneo is coming off back-to-back wins and sports a 6-3 slate at solo third spot.
To score a payback, the Blue Eagles need to get their acts together behind Tony Koyfman, Ron Medalla, John Rivera and Chumason Njigha, who all failed to score in double figures in their first round meeting against NU.
Meanwhile, Adamson University and University of the Philippines battle at 8:00 a.m.
The Falcons are at solo fourth spot with an even 4-4 slate while the Fighting Maroons ended a seven-game slide with a win last week over University of the East.
Adamson dumped UP, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18, in their first meeting two weeks ago.
