What I know is she's gonna be fine. It's nothing serious -- Godfrey Okumu on Isa Molde
Isa Molde is going to be just fine.
University of the Philippines head coach Godfrey Okumu said that Molde suffered an ankle sprain and ‘nothing on the knee.’
The fourth year hitter was stretchered out of the court early in the second set after an awkward landing in the Lady Maroons’ 23-25, 16-25, 23-25 defeat to Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
“What I know is she's gonna be fine. It's nothing serious,” said Okumu. “But what we don't know is how long she's gonna stay out.”
Molde sustained an apparent left knee and ankle injury after she tried to avoid landing on libero Mirgie Bautista, who dove for the ball that setup the attack, following a spike attempt with Ateneo up 4-0 in the frame.
The Season 78 Rookie of the Year was wheeled out of the arena on a wheelchair and was brought to the Philippine General Hospital for further medical exam.
“She's going for x-rays, then after the x-rays we'll be able to talk further about it,” said Okumu, who ruled out the possibility of a knee injury. “Probably, I think it should be a sprain on the ankle. Nothing on the knee.”
With Molde possibly sitting out UP’s match against University of the East on Wednesday, Okumu is looking at fielding veteran Marian Buitre to fill in for the hitter’s spot.
“Buitre, she's a very good player. The issue is she's the same position with Tots Carlos. And they're both strong players,” said Okumu, referring to Buitre. “Now that Isa is out, then we have to introduce Buitre.”
“I believe she will do wonders, yeah, yeah. She's capable of doing wonders, she will give us a lot of strength that we've been waiting for,” added Okumu.
