University of the Philippines rookie libero Mirgie Bautista was just relieved that prized hitter Isa Molde dodged a major injury after an awkward landing early in the second set of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday.

Buti sprain lang po ang nangyari,” said Bautista after the Lady Maroons absorbed a 23-25, 16-25, 23-25, loss to Ateneo de Manila University.

Molde sustained an apparent left knee and ankle injury after she tried to avoid landing on Bautista, who dove for the ball that setup the attack, following a spike attempt with Ateneo up 4-0 in the second frame.

It was first reported that Molde also hurt her knee but head coach Godfrey Okumu told reporters that it was just a sprained ankle.

Bautista added that she was more worried about Molde than the pain of having the full weight of the fourth year hitter falling on her.

Bautista admitted that she was in fear during that accident considering that this season was riddled with season-ending injuries like that of University of Sto. Tomas’ Milena Alessandrini and National University rookie playmaker Joyme Cagande, who both sustained left ACL injuries.

Molde was brought to the Philippine General Hospital for further medical exams.
