Deanna Wong made Ateneo's match opposite FEU a breeze
Ateneo de Manila University is on a nine-game winning streak - and the latest mark on their win column came after they dismantled Far Eastern University, Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Kat Tolentino and Ponggay Gaston were both too much for the Lady Tamaraws, but Bea De Leon and Maddie Madayag also did damage from the middle.
And so, what was supposedly a heavyweight bout turned into domination - a domination so thorough that Ateneo only needed an hour and nine minutes for the win.
For Tolentino, all of it wouldn't have been possible at all if not for their setter. "It was a good team effort because I really saw Deanna distribute the ball really well," she said.
Indeed, Wong tallied 30 excellent sets in just three frames of action - an average of 10 from the first to the third.
Those excellent sets then led to 11 points apiece for Tolentino and Gaston as well as seven markers each for De Leon and Madayag.
Compare that to the trouble FEU had in setting up its offense for the entire match with just 12 excellent sets in all.
For Wong, though, those totals are far from her mind. "It's not in my head how many excellent sets I get. I'm always gonna be there for my team," she said.
What matters for her is that Ateneo - all of Ateneo - continues to up its game now in the stretch run of the tournament. "I think, we're all improving naman as a team, not just me. As long as we stick together naman, we're always gonna challenge ourselves," she said.
