UAAP Season 81: Falcons spoil Tams’ Final Four seat attempt
Adamson University turned back Far Eastern University in five sets to boost its semis bid.

Adamson University saved two match points before making Far Eastern University pay dearly as the Falcons upset the Tamaraws, 25-14, 22-25, 25-23, 16-25, 17-15, Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Falcons came back from 13-14 deficit in the fifth set to stun FEU and improve to 6-4 win-loss record while spoiling the Tams’ attempt to secure the second Final Four spot.

Adamson recovered from two match point deficits before Leo Miranda gave the Falcons a 16-15 lead by penetrating the three-man block of the Tams. Royce Bello put the icing on the cake by hitting a service ace to end the two-hour, three-minute battle.

George Labang led the way for Adamson, scoring 24 points off 22 attacks and two kill blocks while Miranda added 15 markers with all but one coming off spikes. Paolo Pablico added 14 points while Carlo Jimenez tallied 35 excellent sets for the Falcons, who exacted revenge over their first round tormentors.

The Tams dropped to 8-2 slate but remained at solo second spot behind semis-bound defending champion National University (9-1).

Skipper Richard Solis scored 18 points, JP Bugaoan had 15 while Jude Garcia and Redijohn Paler finished with 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for FEU.

Meanwhile, University of Sto. Tomas arrested an alarming four-game slide after knocking out University of the Philippines, 25-17, 18-25, 25-20, 25-15, in the first game.

Rookie Jaron Requinton and Joshua Umandal had 20 points each to lift the Tigers to 4-6 mark tied with idle De La Salle University. Manuel Medina and Jayvee Sumagaysay scored 15 and 13, respectively, for UST.

The Fighting Maroons were booted out of the semis race after absorbing their ninth loss in 10 outings.

Jerry San Pedro had 14 points, Nicolo Consuelo got 13 while John Millete finished with 12 for UP.
