Aldin Ayo will not be leaving Espana
In just one year, Aldin Ayo has brought back the bite of University of Sto. Tomas.
And with UAAP Season 82 looming large, the multi-titled mentor has the Growling Tigers ready and raring to pounce once more.
That is even truer now that coach Aldin's one and only focus is on Espana's Seniors squad. "Mali siguro ang narinig ng iba. Hinding-hindi aalis si Coach Aldin sa UST Seniors," a source said.
This, in response to rumors that went around last Wednesday saying that the 41-year-old fiery tactician was reportedly out of UST.
Another source added, "Buong-buo na yung team namin. Iiwan pa ba namin?"
Indeed, the Growling Tigers are geared up for war now that Coach Aldin has many, many weapons at his disposal.
Those include returnees Marvin Lee, Renzo Subido, and Zach Huang as well as Beninese powerhouse Soulemane Chabi Yo, sweet-shooting Sherwin Concepcion, defensive enforcer Brent Paraiso, long-limbed wing Rhenz Abando, and high school one-and-done sensation Mark Nonoy.
That's not even counting last year's super rookie CJ Cansino who remains on track in his recovery from a torn ACL.
In the ongoing 2019 PBA D-League, this retooled roster is undefeated in four games and also count a victory versus UAAP champion Ateneo de Manila University.
The sources went on to clarify that what will be happening is that the one-time NCAA and one-time UAAP champion coach has let go of his duties as consultant of the Tiger Cubs and as shot-caller of MPBL team Muntinlupa. "May complications kasi sa Juniors namin kaya nag-decide kaming mag-focus na lang sa Seniors," one of the sources said.
As further proof that there will be no coaching change in UST, a source revealed that they have a new primary backer in IronCon Construction.
This will ensure that coach Aldin is here to stay for the duration of his three-year contract with UST.
