Rookie Ysa Jimenez repaid the trust given to her by University of Sto. Tomas head coach Kungfu Reyes with a breakout game Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.

Reyes praised the contribution of Jimenez as she helped the Tigresses beat University of the East, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16, at the Big Dome to improve to a 7-4 win-loss slate.

Jimenez came off the bench to relieve struggling opposite hitter Dimdim Pacres in the opening set and immediately made an impact.

“Luckily may panibago kaming player na nag-step up. That’s the beauty of it na mayroon kaming strong 13 women na natitira any moment na magpalit kami ng tao. This time si Ysa naman ang nakatulong. Medyo pangit ang start ni Dimdim,” said Reyes.

Jimenez scored 10 points behind the usual scorers rookie Eya Laure and Sisi Rondina, who had 14 and 11 markers, respectively.

“Every game naman lagi akong naka-backup. Kung kailangang ipasok laging nasa isip ko lang kailangan kong mag-contribute,” said Jimenez, who played for UE in high school.

For Jimenez, she was just thankful for the opportunity to prove her worth.

“Malaki kasi gusto ko lang din ma-prove na any time na kailanganin ako, nandito lang ako at magko-contribute sa team,” said Jimenez.
