UAAP Season 81: FEU outlasts UP, takes share of third
Far Eastern University moved up to a share of third after defeating University of the Philippines.

Far Eastern University weathered the fiery comeback attempt of University of the Philippines in the fourth set to escape with an all-important 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, win Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.

Heather Guino-o registered a career-high 22 points with 18 coming off attacks including the match-clinching hit that put the Lady Tamaraws in a two-way tie at third to fourth with 7-4 win-loss record alongside University of Sto. Tomas.

"'Yung game plan namin na-execute especially doon kay Heather," said FEU coach George Pascua.

Guino-o landed four service aces and also filled the non-scoring stats with 22 digs and 12 excellent receptions.

"Kitang-kita naman po ang teamwork, kung ano ang hinahanap sa amin ni coach at saka ng ibang taong naniwala sa amin. 'Yung tulungan talaga na nangyayari, lahat nag-step up," said the graduating hitter.

Skipper Jerrili Malabanan finished with 17 points highlighted by 15 attacks while Jeanette Villareal and Celine Domingo, who was scoreless in FEU's straight sets loss to league-leading Ateneo de Manila University last Wednesday, added eight markers each.

FEU, which landed 16 service aces, broke an 18-18 deadlock in the fourth with 5-1 run to take a 23-19 lead capped by a France Ronquillo ace. Tots Carlos scored back-to-back to hits before Jerrili Malabanan pushed FEU at match point on a kill.

Carlos saved a match point before Guino-o’s game-winner.

Carlos finished with 22 points, 23 digs and 18 excellent receptions for the Lady Maroons, who dropped to fifth place with a 6-5 mark.

Justine Dorog added 15 markers while Marian Buitre got nine points for UP. Isa Molde, who is coming off an ankle injury, played sparingly.
