UAAP Season 81: UP, FEU collide in crucial match
Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines clash to remain inside the top four.

With the race for the semifinals already in its crucial stretch, University of the Philippines and Far Eastern University clash in an all-important battle on Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.

The Lady Tamaraws and Lady Maroons are in a three-way tie with University of Sto. Tomas at third to fifth with 6-4 win-loss slates behind league-leading Ateneo de Manila University (9-1) and defending three-time champion De La Salle University (7-3).

At stake in the 4:00 p.m. duel is a chance to remain inside the Top Four. The game will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183, iWant and via livestream.

UP is coming off a five-set win over University of the East last Wednesday and for head coach Godfrey Okumu, it’s important for his wards to keep their focus in their goal to return in the Final Four after missing the cut the last two seasons.

“All games are must-win games. That's the only thing I'll say,” said Okumu, who is expecting the return of top hitter Isa Molde after missing the Lady Maroons’ last match to rest a grade 1 left ankle sprain she sustained in a straight sets loss to the Lady Eagles last weekend.

While UP is coming off a win, the Lady Tams are reeling off a disappointing straight sets beating from Ateneo.

“We’re really disappointed with the way we played but like coach (George Pascua) said after each game just learn from it and move on to the next game,” said graduating hitter Jerrili Maalabanan.

UP defeated FEU, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, in their first meeting.

But this time the Lady Tams will take on the Lady Maroons sans prized rookie Lycha Ebon, who is down with a left knee injury.
