Three-time defending champion De La Salle University may have dominated Adamson University in straight sets on Sunday at the Big Dome but head coach Ramil De Jesus was less than satisfied with the Lady Spikers’ performance.
With a big game coming up less than a week from now, De Jesus felt that his wards were still missing the killer’s instinct and intensity that they need to score a repeat over archrival Ateneo de Manila University.
“Sabi ko sa kanila hindi ako satisfied sa nangyari kanina kasi may mga unforced errors na ‘yun nga lalayo tapos didikit,” said De Jesus, who was not impressed with his team’s performance despite beating the Lady Falcons, 25-15, 25-18, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament to improve to an 8-3 win-loss record at second spot behind the league-leading Lady Eagles.
De Jesus was particularly disappointed with the Lady Spikers’ 20 errors.
The mentor also felt that the Lady Spikers were forgetting their role inside the court particularly in the second set where they allowed Adamson to turn its 6-12 deficit to a 16-15 lead after Des Cheng sent her attack straight to the net.
DLSU will have enough time to prepare for its rematch against Ateneo on Saturday and De Jesus will try to get his wards ready in a marquee faceoff.
He’s hoping to surprise the Lady Eagles one more time.
“Nakatapat na namin sila nu’ng first round nagulat sa amin,” said De Jesus. “Sana magulat ulit.”
