UAAP Season 81: NU nears semis twice-to-beat advantage, FEU enters Final Four

Repeat-seeking National University moved a step closer to clinching a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage.
Defending champion National University secured at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four and towed Far Eastern University in the next round after sweeping De La Salle University, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16, Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.
Bryan Bagunas played his usual game and delivered 23 points and 12 excellent receptions to extend the Bulldogs’ winning streak to 10 straight for a 10-1 win-loss record. Angelo Almendras added 11 markers while James Natividad had nine points for NU, which stormed past the Green Spikers in just 72 minutes and in the process handed the Tamaraws the second semifinals seat.
DLSU dropped to 4-7 slate tied with University of Sto. Tomas at fifth to sixth spot.
Cris Dumago and John David Delos Reyes posted eight markers each for the Green Spikers, who were pushed on the brink of elimination.
Meanwhile, FEU beat University of the East, 25-18, 25-19, 25-12, in a 66-minute duel to remain at second spot with a 9-2 card and boost its bid for a semis advantage.
Jude Garcia scored 11 points while JP Bugaoan got 10 markers for the Tams, who came in the game with a semis ticket already in the bag following the Bulldogs’ win over the Green Spikers.
The Red Warriors absorbed their fourth straight defeat and ninth overall in 11 games.
Lloyd Josafat and Noel Alba scored six markers each for UE.
